Inspired by the world’s first rum blend
The story of Black Tot was sparked when our founder Sukhinder Singh discovered and tasted several historic Royal Navy rum flagons and was astonished by the delicious, layered flavours. No rum he had tasted before had as much depth or complexity. It sparked an obsession with flavour and led to the creation of Black Tot rum through the art of blending.
We take inspiration from the particular problem-solving of the navy and the accidental genius that changed rum forever. They tried blending together multiple rums from different places and unlocked a delicious complexity with many more layers of flavour. This was the first ever global rum blend, an innovation before its time.
At Black Tot we carry this idea forward into modern rum-making, using different rums as flavour components and marrying them together to create multi-dimensional flavour. Unbound by convention, we use blending techniques and expertise from whisky, sherry and beyond to maximise taste and texture in our rums, and even blend rare rums others wouldn’t dare to.
Our name references the day the Royal Navy ended their 200-year tradition of daily rum rations - Black Tot Day, 31st July 1970.
